Era 23 de Setembro de 2000, 29 anos após a desativação dos bondes e 15 anos depois de uma linha turística na orla, os Bondes de Santos eram reinaugurados. O bonde 84 (agora 32) que ficou durante muitos anos em exposição no Orquidário, voltou a circular junto com o reboque 1 de 1871 (na verdade um bonde a burros), o primeiro bonde a circular em Santos, em 9 de Outubro de 1871. Em 26 de Janeiro de 2002 entra em operação o bonde fechado camarão 40.
Mas em 2005 começa uma outra história: desembarcam no porto de Santos 3 bondes doados pela Cidade do Porto. São os primeiros bondes doados para Santos. Em 2006 o primeiro dos três, o 193, entra em operação. Em 2007 o SESC - Bertioga doa um bonde "Gilda" que pertenceu a Nova York e São Paulo. No Dia do Bonde em 2008, o segundo bonde português volta a circular: o 224, pintado de verde e branco.
Em 2009, Santos recebe mais dois presentes vindos de Turim, Itália: o 3265 e o articulado 2800. Neste mesmo ano entra em operação a ampliação do circuito, passando de 1,5 km para 8 km. Em 2010, o 3265 entra em operação e em 2011 o Bonde 38 (veja a história aqui: http://thalesveigastrainworld.blogspot.com/2011/04/historia-do-bonde-38-parte-i.html e http://thalesveigastrainworld.blogspot.com/2011/04/historia-do-bonde-38-parte-ii.html) é comprado e entra em operação. Também neste ano completa 1 milhão de passageiros transportados em 11 anos de operação.
