Diesel locomotives English Electric Rede Ferroviária do Nordeste acquired in 1954 to pull trains for general use. The wheelarrangement was chosen the "A1A", due to limitations of axle weight on flights for which these machines were acquired. This sitecan be considered quite unique because its design was veryadvanced - or at least strange - for the molds of time. Also, themanufacturer was very little known on the subject of diesel locomotives. The English Electric was enjoying good reputation in terms of electric locomotives in EFSJ, but nothing was known of thismaker in terms of diesel locos. They were low-poweredlocomotives, overfed, without dynamic brakes, with dual control, diesel engine, 8 cylinders in line, and arrangement of wheels "A1A"- that is, the tricks were 3-axis, with two traction motors on each one,and the central axis served only as a support to reduce the weightper axle.
